I have tried several other cholesterol lowering drugs, but have had muscle aching. I started taking Lipitor and after about 3 weeks, experienced joint pain and some muscle pain.
This is a muscle enzyme and usually up with lipitor associated myositis. But, I have had at least two patients who have had muscle pain and normal cpk-but the pains cleared with stopping the lipitor.
Lipitor is proven to lower total cholesterol by 29 to 45 percent. As with any prescription, it comes with a list of possible side effects, such as muscle pain or weakness and liver dysfunction.

In fact, it is so rare that I have never personally seen a case caused by statin drugs in 25 years as a doctor. When a patient discontinues their “statin”, the muscle aches quickly disappear.
There's evidence in the medical literature that patients on statins don't report any more muscle pain than those on a placebo, which causes many doctors to disregard any complaints.
