Under an agreement with PETA signed May 5, KFC Canada will phase in over eight years the use of „controlled-atmosphere killing“ for all chickens bought for its restaurants.
"There was a five-year campaign and KFC Canada was the first to adopt this policy, but around the world, the campaign is still on," Fruno said.
Among other things, the deal obliges KFC Canada to begin buying from suppliers who use gas to kill their chickens painlessly, considered to be the least cruel method of slaughter.
Beginning September 4, participating KFC Canada restaurants will sell school rulers to fund extracurricular activities for school-aged children.
